Night Prayer – Help You to Sleep With a Peaceful Mind
Graciousness
Father, we thank thee for the night, and the pleasant morning light. For rest and food and loving care, and all that makes the day so fair. Help us to do the things we should, to be kind and good to others. In all we do, in work or play, to grow more loving every day. Rebecca Weston
Protection
Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, watch and guard me through the night, and wake me with the morning light.
God’s Strength
Almighty God, radiant with light, cast your goodness to shine upon me. Most wonderful Lord, the creator of all things, hold your truth to shield me. Majestic King who reigns over all, slay with great love all the shadows around me. Prince of Peace, glorious and true, lift your arms of strength to cover me. All this night through. Amen
God’s Love
Father, you know my worries and care for my troubles. So I give these heavy concerns to you. I lay these situations at your feet. An empty cross is a place of rest, where I can reflect upon your resurrection and the moment when love overcame me.
Thank you that your love for me can transform the landscape of my life. I walk with peace into the new day and put my hope in you. Nothing is outside of your redeeming love. Might I rest now in the knowledge that you will light my path and guide my life? Amen. Night Prayer – Help You to Sleep With a Peaceful Mind

God’s Grace
Lord, thank you for your abundant, abounding grace. Thank you that we don’t have to earn a drop of the mighty river of grace that flows freely for us today.
Thank you for the unexpected, unmerited favor you’ve showered in my life. Help me put myself on the path of your love and grace.
Help me not neglect the disciplines I need to meet with you regularly and to drink from the water of life. Thank you for your rich love. Amen. David Mathis
Help Easing Our Minds
Dear God, as I lay me down to sleep, relax the tension of my body; calm the restlessness of my mind; still, the thoughts which worry and perplex me. Help me to rest myself and all my problems in your strong and loving arms.
Let your Spirit speak to my mind and heart while I am asleep, so that, when I wake up in the morning, I may find that I have received in the night-time, light for my way; strength for my tasks; peace for my worries; forgiveness for my sins. Grant me sleep tonight, and tomorrow’s power to live.
Times of Struggle
God, sometimes life gets me down, and I find it hard to see things to be thankful for. Open my eyes to see the gifts you’ve given me in my life. I’m going to start by thanking you for loving me enough to come to earth and die, so we can live together forever. Amen. Wendy van Eyck
When You Need Calm
Holy Spirit, please encircle me, come hold me safe and secure. Wrap my mind up with your truth. Guide my thoughts and calm my fears. Steady my emotions, Lord, that you would guide my feelings. May I not be overcome by upset. Sustain my soul, with a vision for the future, and hope for tomorrow. I need you. Amen.
I Lay Down to Sleep, Relax the Tension of My Body
Sleep, that blessed reprieve from the bustling world, is a moment when our bodies and minds find solace in the arms of tranquility. But sometimes, the tension we accumulate throughout the day can linger, preventing us from truly embracing the restorative power of sleep. In those quiet moments, before we drift off into dreams, many of us have whispered a silent plea: God, as I lay down to sleep. This heartfelt entreaty encapsulates the universal desire for peaceful slumber, unburdened by the weight of stress and strain.
The Unseen Weight We Carry
Life’s demands often bestow upon us burdens both seen and unseen. As we navigate the complex labyrinth of responsibilities, relationships, and personal growth, our bodies can become unwitting repositories of the stress we encounter. Tension takes root in our muscles, knotting them into tight bundles that can disrupt our comfort and well-being. Dear God, we implore, recognizing that this tension can mar the tranquility of our nights.
A Symphony of Release
Imagine if our bodies could heed that earnest request as if they possessed a divine understanding of our needs. Picture a symphony of relaxation, where each muscle group plays its part in a harmonious melody of release. The neck and shoulders, often strained from the weight of the day, would unfurl like the petals of a delicate flower.
The back, burdened by the tasks we carry, would loosen its grip, allowing us to breathe freely. Limbs tired from bustling activity would stretch out in gentle contentment. “Dear God, as I lay down to sleep, relax the tension of my body,” we murmur, hoping for this symphony to envelop us.
The Dance of Mind and Body
Our minds and bodies share an intricate dance, each influencing the other in ways both profound and subtle. When tension resides within us, it is not limited to the physical realm—it echoes in the corridors of our thoughts. Anxieties and worries intertwine with our dreams, turning the stillness of sleep into a battleground of restless contemplation. I lay down to sleep, relax the tension of my body, we exclaim, recognizing that the release of physical tension can be a catalyst for calming the tempestuous waves of our minds.
Embracing the Night’s Embrace
In the arms of the night, where stars shimmer and dreams take flight, lies a canvas of infinite possibilities. But for many, the tension woven into their being acts as a barrier, preventing them from fully embracing the night’s embrace.
What if, however, the earnest supplication— Dear God, held the key to unlocking the serenity of those nocturnal hours? What if, by relinquishing the burdens we carry, we could soar into the realms of dreams unencumbered by the weight of the world?
A Ritual of Surrender
Perhaps the act of lying down to sleep can become a ritual of surrender—a deliberate release of all that weighs us down. In this ritual, the words become a mantra, a declaration of intent. With each repetition, the tension begins to yield, like a dam giving way to a river’s flow. We visualize our bodies becoming lighter, as if the worries of the day are slowly evaporating into the night.
Creating a Haven for Sleep
Creating an environment conducive to rest is essential in our pursuit of peaceful sleep. Soft pillows and cozy blankets cradle our bodies, inviting them to let go. Ambient sounds, like the gentle rustling of leaves or the distant murmur of waves, can transport us to a realm of tranquility. As we lay down, we whisper once again, infusing our surroundings with the energy of our plea.
A Sacred Trust
Sleep is a sacred trust we place in the hands of the night. It is a bridge between the struggles of today and the possibilities of tomorrow. As we close our eyes and let go, we find solace in the idea that something greater than ourselves watches over us. In that tender moment, the tension of our bodies becomes an offering—a testament to our vulnerability and our willingness to surrender. Dear God, we whisper one last time, as the night envelops us in its embrace.
Conclusion
These words encapsulate the yearning for rest unburdened by the weight of stress and strain. They embody the hope for a symphony of release, a dance of mind and body, and a haven for sleep’s embrace.
In the quiet moments before sleep, this heartfelt plea echoes in the hearts of many, a reminder that even in our vulnerability, we are connected to something greater. So, as you lay down to sleep tonight, remember the power of your words and the possibility of surrendering the tension that lingers.
